Last night my husband and I went out on a date and saw the movie "Cloud Atlas". The movie was absolutely beautiful - the weaving together of different stories and separate lives into a symphonic work. Also, I saw so much truth in the movie - True Truth - the kind of Truth that flows from the mouth of God.
Which makes me wonder....
Who speaks for God? Does he NEED us to speak for Him? What is the message he would have us say, or live, or be, or do? Do we need an industry of "Christian" movies, where everything turns out happy in the end, in order to have hollywood proclaim the beauty and truth of the Kingdom? What if those movies are terribly written, badly acted, hokey, or inaccessible to anyone except a small band of already-super-christiany Christians?
Who speaks for God?
Romans 14:11 says that every tongue will confess. Is this already happening? A time is coming and has now come.... Can we look around and see people speaking, writing, and making images of the True Truth of the Kingdom that will never pass away?
Could it be that God has indeed "written on their hearts"(Romans 2:15) His law? His Kingdom? His truth? Could it be that people who do not speak of God directly actually see aspects of him and even propagate Truth?
Could it be that sometimes we Christians maneuver in an arrogance that will be our downfall? Do we study the whole of scripture or do we look at small sections - dividing up the great story of God and humanity into moral imperatives that even we "the elect" are not able to perfectly achieve?
So often I see True Truth in movies - the Lover going into hell to rescue His beloved in "What dreams may come"; the hero giving his life to save others; Aslan or Gandalf or even Bond coming back from the dead; stories of overcoming; stories of redemption; stories of good winning and evil loosing; stories of hope in the midst of darkness; stories of beauty in the midst destruction.
God is telling His story and telling His story and telling His story... in millions of ways by people of all kinds of backgrounds. Because, the True truth cannot be silenced and God's glorious story is all around us... if we have eyes to see.
